In my day job I am lucky enough to work for The Lighthouse in the centre of Glasgow. If you don’t already know about The Lighthouse, it is Scotland’s Centre for Design and Architecture. Essentially it’s a tourist attraction, exhibition and events space all wrapped up in a beautiful Charles Rennie Mackintosh building just off Buchanan Street.
This month we were lucky enough to open a super exciting new exhibition, “Hello, My Name is Paul Smith”. The exhibition is centred on the work of the British fashion designer Paul Smith. Obviously, having been working on this exhibition I am totally biased, but it really is fantastic. The exhibition has been beautifully curated by the Design Museum, London along with the team at Paul Smith and it’s incredible to have it here, in Glasgow.
The exhibition documents the journey of the Paul Smith brand, from humble beginnings in a tiny shop in Nottingham to the global brand it is today. There are sections including a replica of Paul’s office, the current design studio and a beautiful art wall filled with beautiful photography and prints. There is obvious appeal for those interested in fashion and design but the exhibition really aims to inspire – and let’s face it we could all do with a little inspiration!
And yeah, in case you were wondering there are some truly stylish clothes to be seen too!
Hello, My Name is Paul Smith is on at The Lighthouse, Glasgow from the 21st January – 20th March 2016. Tickets are priced at £6 (£4 concessions) and available on the door or by advance booking here.
