Hello, My Name is Paul Smith at The Lighthouse, Glasgow
In my day job I am lucky enough to work for The Lighthouse in the centre of Glasgow. If you don’t already know about The Lighthouse, it is Scotland’s Centre for Design and Architecture. Essentially it’s a tourist attraction, exhibition and events space all wrapped up in a beautiful Charles Rennie Mackintosh building just off Buchanan Street.
This month we were lucky enough to open a super exciting new exhibition, “Hello, My Name is Paul Smith”. The exhibition is centred on the work of the British fashion designer Paul Smith. Obviously, having been working on this exhibition I am totally biased, but it really is fantastic. The exhibition has been beautifully curated by the Design Museum, London along with the team at Paul Smith and it’s incredible to have it here, in Glasgow.
Paesano opened in Glasgow just a few months ago, after being recommended to go by several friends I stopped for a visit at lunch time last week.
The location is good, tucked in the blocks between Buchanan Street and Merchant City it’s convenient for shoppers and office workers, as well as those who are heading out specifically for dinner and drinks.
I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with Primark. It’s not somewhere I find myself shopping a lot – the queues are annoying, I don’t think the clothes fit well and generally the fitting rooms are a disaster so trying anything on is a no-no. However there are things that I do like about it, for cheap basics like face clothes, hair bobbles and pyjamas you really can’t beat it.
I visited the other day and managed to catch a quiet time (score!), I took the opportunity to stock up on a few bits and pieces from their accessory collections – as well as some face cloths which I haven’t pictured – they really are just white face cloths! The spring travel items have just arrived and as someone who loves anything related to storage and organisation, they look great. I picked up a large nautical style make up or toiletry bag for just £3.00, a cute new cat-eared phone case for just £1.00 and an iPhone cable for just £2.50 – I don’t know how good this will be, but I wanted one to keep in the car and this is waaaayyy cheaper than official Apple ones and seems sturdier than some I have seen. I also chose some cute bracelets and essential hair bobbles. All in all not a bad little haul for just over £10!
Sales are on the out and new stock is arriving in all the high street stores and H&M is no exception. I was browsing on their site today and found myself lusting over the new homeware drop. It’s full of neutral, textured pieces with a real luxe feel for a budget price point and let’s face it, who doesn’t love the sound of that!
I’ve long been a fan of H&M’s storage options, this textured ceramic pot is fantastic and would look great on a dressing table, mantle piece or shelf. Aside from being pretty it will also be great for keeping bits and pieces tidy. Having just finished my fireplace I’m looking for some decorate bits to add to it, this bottle shaped vase is perfect and at only £6.99 it’s a total bargain. I’ve had my eye on a throw for a while, especially as the weather has become crazy cold, this one has a lovely texture and I love the colour too. At £29.99 it’s the priciest of my picks, but still isn’t breaking the bank.
I mentioned a few posts back that one of my non resolutions was to read more this year. Here we are almost at the end of January and I have no idea what happened to the month. Seriously, anyone else think they slept through it? Anyway whilst I’ve been quite productive in other ways I haven’t yet finished a book.
My current reading list.
I did however notice that The Bloggers Hub are starting a book club, and the first book is one I got for Christmas, #Girlboss by Sophia Amoruso, the founder and CEO of Nasty Gal. I’ll be starting it tonight and hopefully have a little review up next week. Once I’m done the next book on my list is another Christmas present, Pretty Honest by Sali Hughes. Packed full of beauty know how and tips, I’ve already sneaked a peek at various chapters and it looks great.
I was in Boots the other day having a browse when I stumbled upon the Garnier Moisture Match range which was on offer for just £1.99. In the past I haven’t got on too well with Garnier body moisturisers but I thought for the price I might as well pick one up and give it a try.
